Do You Ever Feel "All Poured Out"?

  • Nov 10, 2008

Sometimes I just feel spent.

The feeling comes with different tag lines:

"We could not have crammed more into this weekend."

"I'm exhausted, but this was a great event."

"Dee Dee, your family wears me out!" (Just kidding, Honey!)

Because we're tired, those are the things that come out of our mouth when we finally sit down after a myriad of tasks.  But other times, it can be more significant.  At times it can almost seem like a season of life--a draining season.

Recently at Mosaic we swept through the book of Philippians.  During that time a scripture lept out to me.  In Phillipians 2:17 Paul talks about "being poured out like a drink offering".

As he speaks of being "poured out" it's clear that his life isn't being spilled or wasted.

I've got to admit, sometimes I feel like I'm doing so many things that I'm being sloshed around, spilled and wasted all over the place!

What about you?  Do you ever feel spilled and wasted?

On the other hand, there are times I'm just tired and feeling "poured out" and spent for a greater purpose.  For me that greater purpose usually is a combination of ministry, parenting and striving to be a good husband.

Can you relate?

There's no doubt that I get tired from both; however, I have different emotional responses and a greater degree of satisfaction when I'm not tired from being "spilled and wasted."

As I do life with Jesus, my "spent" times are less likely to be from being "spilled and wasted"; although, I still get sloshed around and spilled sometimes.

For those of you who know me . . . you know I don't have it all together!  I don't pretend too.  I guess that's why I'm so drawn to our Mosaic community that says, you don't have to be perfect, just throw your pieces in.

For a while, I've been saying, God's piecing us together to be something we could never be on our own.

I believe that more all of the time.
